Greece is getting ready for another positive tourism season

Greece remains a safe harbour...
  • In the context of the 1 to 1 Scheme, a decline in the numbers of irregular migrants reaching Greece via sea has been marked, along with the first Returns to Turkey and the first resettlements from Turkey to the E.U.
  • More that 1.200 irregular migrants in need of International Protection have already been relocated from both Italy and Greece.
  • Queen Rania of Jordan, travelled to Lesvos island and visited Kara Tepe reception camp in spirit of solidarity.
  • In the Justice and Home Affairs Council held in Luxembourg in 21/04/2016, the target set was that of relocating about 20.000 irregular migrants by mid-May.
  • The Greek E.U Commissioner stated that more than 70% of the irregular migrants are eligible for relocation.
The Greek Islands remain the ideal yachting destination

  • The dwindling refugee influx is contained within a small area facing the Turkish coast that affects just a few islands out of Greece’s six thousand. As shown in the map, yellow highlighted islands are the only ones addressing refugees' matters.
  • During the past 3 months refugee influx in Dodecanese has remarkably decreased allowing the islands to get back on their usual track.
  • Locations marked in yellow, being frontier regions have never been traditional yachting destinations.
  • As you can see on the map, borderlands such as Mytilene and Chios are stretched in great radius from Cyclades and other popular Greek Yachting destinations.

Just to get a feel of distance in the Greek seas...
  • Mytilene is 415 nautical miles away from Corfu. Distance-wise this equals going from New York City to Ohio (768 Km or 477 miles).
  • Mytilene is 181 nautical miles far from Santorini island, like going from Munich to Milan (247 Km or 187 miles).
  • Mytilene is 190 nautical miles distant from Piraeus which is like going from Paris to London (351 Km or 218 miles).
